Senses can be overloaded or mask the important stimulus in performance (an important softer noise could be drowned out by the drone of a louder noise). A sudden loud noise can distract, especially in sports requiring concentration, such as golf. High or low temperatures can cause discomfort and hurt performance by wearing you down.
