Isometric
Exercise
Exercise involving an immovable object when muscle force
is exerted against the immovable object and results in no
body motion.
Isotonic
Exercise
Exercise that uses a constant resistance, such as a
barbell or dumbell, causing muscle force that exceeds the
weight of the barbell or dumbell and causes joint motion.
Isotonic means the weight or resistance stays the same
--nothing fancy; however, the force on the muscle does
really change because of variable positions of the body
leverage and because of the angle of the pull of the
muscle. One angled position of the lift can be quite
effortless compared to another angle along the range of
motion of the same lift.
